Microplastic catastrophe

Before I began my research I was very naive to the extent of our plastic problem....plastic catastrophe. I knew plastics were hidden in the most unexpected places but never quite realised how sneaky our beauty industry it.

This facial scrub, labelled 'Skin Naturals', contains a vile of plastic beads that break down to become even smaller, also called microplastics. Not only are these tiny pieces of plastics mistaken for food, but they act as a sponge for pollutants. If this is not enough to put people off buying these products then be reminded that the fish on sale that you purchase and eat will have intestines filled with he plastics and intoxicated with chemicals! In Feburary 2016 13 sperm whales were found washed up near Toenning, Germany. An autopsy revealed stomachs full of plastics, from a car engine cover to 13M long fishing nets.
