Artist talk: Mandy Barker

I was very lucky to attend a talk by the very talented award winning photographer Mandy Barker. Barker's series titled 'Soup' caught my attention greatly as she collected litter from coastal areas, sorted and photographed them. She believes there is a greater potential for acknowledgement from the public that we must change our behaviour if the objects are taken out of context.

This particular work 'Bird's nest' is created using

fishing line that, as a result of tidal movement, has formed into balls.

I find her work incredibly powerful and her morals so inspirational. She manages to capture the flow of the ocean, the tranquility and silence experienced under water, yet the desperation for change through the man-made forms. In this particular piece I love how the fishing line can be observed in a jelly fish form as they delicately float with the current.
